Like Gilbert & George, here are two artists who work as one, using photographic images as a starting point, not a conclusion. From the moment I saw one of their first paintings some years ago, I was hooked. Simplicity is at the heart of their artistic vocabulary. Images that soothe, that wander, that reflect both the familiar and the imagined. I sometimes feel like many of the above images could have easily come from The New York School, and Spencer and Imler have just excavated them from a warehouse in the Village.

But that is not to do their work justice. If you look at the artist’s website, you will unearth a treasure trove of works, all beautifully executed, all with a steady hand, and a keen eye for beauty and transcendence. I am just happy that they are making great art and sharing it with the public. When I discovered these latest works, my reaction was the same as always. Sublime!
